busy, post, school, the nail maker, update, Writing

It’s been a while my friends, but I still lurk around the corners of the site here. School has started and brought with it a torrent of things that need attended to. However, I do not wish to speak of school, for I already have two to many of those posts and am beginning to sound redundant.

Anyway, I have taken a break from writing for a while. Not something I really decided, but I had been needing to focus on some other aspects of my life while preparing for school and working a job, so not a lot of time had been left to me. However, even though I am tremendously busy, I am starting back up on my writing. In the upcoming week, probably by next Friday or Saturday, I will be posting a short story titled, “The Nail Maker”. It’s something like Tolkien’s folk-lore type stories. It was definitely inspired by them and I will be directly influenced by the style they are written in. Any constructive criticism will be welcome and I hope it will at least be slightly entertaining. Please have a wonderful week and keep doing what you love!

There are just some things that create a sense of awe. Namely, this artist. His vision is incredible and I am amazed that I had stumbled across him today. Just look at some of his pictures! They are the type of scale that I dream of and wish to convey within my writings. If only it could be just as powerful. If I can someday reach the scale with which he shows here, I know that I will have done well. Just look at them. They are inspiring.

I entered my writings into the contest! I’ll find out what I received later on in February, so I’m incredibly, incredibly excited!

alliance, and artists, authors, enter, for, gold key, I, local art, lucky winner, major group, to, want, young, young artists

This shiny little title signifies the very thing that I’m going to be entering into this weekend in the hopes that I come out with a gold key due to my writings.

What does this mean? Well, I’m glad you asked!

The Alliance For Young Artists and Writers is a group from Schoolastic found here: http://www.artandwriting.org/

They are a major group within America that takes submissions from either the school, or the local Art Museum and from there, they judge the work from each region. That work includes writings like short stories, poems, freelance essays, and even novels. Art includes anything from drawings in pencil to taking a photograph of some long forgotten room.

The judges of each region judge each category and then give it the rank of either, Honored Mention, Silver key or Gold key. If you are a senior in highschool, and you are ranked a Gold key, you are automatically entered into a judging in New York City. There, they will judge you once again, only this time, on a national level, and if you are the lucky winner there, you are granted the ability to display your work in the museum in NYC. (I believe that there are some scholarships involved, but I forget.)

Last year, I was a Junior, and I receive a Silver key, which is incredible, with a work I wrote Freshman year.

This year, I am entering in a lot more submissions, and I really, really hope that I win Gold. I think that it would be a major boost to my belief in myself, as well as get at least a little recognition for myself! I DO want to go into writing when I grow older, and I think that this will only help me. Deadline is this Friday and I have about fourteen to fifteen works to enter.
Wish me luck.

Well.

It’s a lot of work. And I feel like I’m dreaming more than I am writing, though I am doing a fair bit of writing. I think I’ll expand on this a little later.

Let the billy bugs run.

Anyhway, today it Thursday, and I have work from 10-6:30. Yay raaahh! I like the hours, but not the work. I hate my customers with a freaking passion! Food always seems to bring out the worst in people.

There have been some things on my mind, that just don’t really seem to want to leave me. Mostly it’s a situation of girls and my future. I’m praying that it will all turn out, and I’m sure that it will, it’s just that right now, I am not positive on what to do.

*sigh* I know it’ll come, I just need patience. And that’s something that I am really, really lacking right now.

Well, I’m new here.

#follow me!, #here, #I'll follow back, #new, #please

I have come from Tumblr. A good website, but I felt that it wasn’t as personal as I would wish. I do still dearly love it, and I will continue to post there, but I think that a blog like this will be refreshing. I guess that you will want to know a bit about me, so here you go.

My name is Ben Smith and 18, I’m from North America and I dearly love it here, even despite the harsh times that we are going through. It’s a wonderful country, it has just wandered from its roots and needs a bit of redirection.

I am an aspiring author and am currently writing a book called, Relance: Shattered. It’s dark and fairly morbid, and I’m still working on the first draft. (Thank you NanoWriMo)

I am homeschooled, though I am going to college next year to become an English Major with a  concentration on writing. I’m so thrilled, my chest is pounding for next year!

If you have any other questions, please, just ask, and I’ll be happy to answer them. I will be posting a few of my own writings on here, the ones that I don’t mind being out on the internet. However, that does not mean you may steal them. I worked on them and I wish them to be admired, not stolen. If you guys ever see anything that may be wrong with my writings, critique would be incredibly welcome. I will try and not take any of it personally, and if I do, just yell at me! Then we’ll be even. 🙂

So, anyway, if any of you have a Tumblr, follow me at  http://shudderingwords.tumblr.com/ .

I know that most of you won’t have a Tumblr, but if you do, please follow! If your blog is work-worthy, I’ll follow back.

Now to explore this website. I’m already learning to like it, even as I type! It seems friendlier than Tumblr’s layout.
